A Disjointed Self
When I became ill, it was as though I became divided. And maybe in a sense reborn. I had to change every perception, every dream, every idea of who and what I thought I would become in this world. I had 16 years of exploring possibilities and growing to achieve those dreams. And then all of a sudden, everything changed. Childhood dreams of being a professional dancer were over. My daily ritual of running would never happen again. Exploring every corner of the world faded into a memory. My physical body would never be the same again. It was this struggle that led to many years of feeling disjointed within. Split between two worlds. Split between journeys. The conflicting forces are what I refer to as my Inner Spirit and my Physical Spirit.
